Constitution of the United States
Welcome!

FreeNation.US was created to explore ideas about the United States of America. How it is, and how it could and should be. We are just getting started.

In other blogs, I have written about psychology and parenting, pretty much keeping in my lane as a practicing psychiatrist. I have always felt it best to remain something of a mystery to my patients; since it leaves greater scope for projection, and patients might worry about sharing feelings and opinions I might disagree with. Sharing opinions can sometimes also foster dependence and interfere with some patients assuming authority for their lives.

However, as I see it, the situation is dire. The country is in trouble, Earth is in trouble. At this point in time, sharing these thoughts seems to me a moral imperitive, despite the strong possiblity some prospective and current patients might disagree with them.

You will find my thinking is not strictly conservative, nor liberal. Not strictly practical, nor idealistic. I grew up in a conservative time and place. My father was in the military. I have strong beliefs about individual freedom and responsibility, and a strong love for my country.

However, experience has shown me that through no fault of their own, people sometimes find themselves in terrible situations. Those people deserve respect, compassion and aid. Our country, by its laws and policies, should not force innocent people into such situations.

Abraham Lincoln said that our government should be: “of the people, by the people, for the people”, and I agree. Our laws and policies should be focused on promoting the well-being of human beings. The rights of corporations and other artificial entities should not be considered guaranteed by the Constitution, nor held as equivalent or superior to those of human beings.

I believe there is a path forward for us that leads to greater fairness, freedom, economic security, and environmental stability. I hope you will take these ideas and make it happen. Don’t wait for someone else to do it. Don’t take freedom for granted. Our country, humanity, and the world need your help, now.

As I expand on these ideas in my posts, I encourage you to respond with your own thoughts and comments. The devil is in the details, as they say. Meaning there are likely many complications and exceptions and issues with some of my ideas that need to be explored. Your opinions and experience could be very helpful as we search for that best path forward.

Thank you.
